THE LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY AND HAVE-NOTS COMEDY PARTNER TO HELP 16-YEAR-OLD ANTHONY PIETRA LIVE A BETTER, LONGER LIFE.
Miami Beach, FL (April 19, 2011) — Have-Nots Comedy proudly announces a partnership with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to produce a comedy benefit for the charity organization. Funds raised at the event will help cancer patients across South Florida, including the night’s honoree — 16-year-old Anthony Schiappa Pietra, a student at Palmer Trinity School who is battling Non-Hodgkins T-Cell Lymphoma.
The Comedy Benefit for Anthony Pietra and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be held on Friday, May 6 at Buck 15 (above Miss Yip Chinese Café), at their new location — 437 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. The performance is free to the public, with a $5 suggested donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Doors open at 7:30pm; showtime is at 8:30pm. Full menu options from Miss Yip Chinese Café are available to all guests.
The lineup of comedians includes a showcase of Miami’s hottest comics, including Dominic Perenzin, fresh off his appearance at The 6th Annual South Beach Comedy Festival; Franky Arriola, founder of Nap Dog Media; and Daniel Reskin, the brainchild behind Sweat Records’ Casa de Haha and WFOR-CBS 4 Miami’s “Best Local Comic 2011.”
This night of laughs is headlined by media darling Jessica Gross, crowned “Best Club Comic 2010” by Miami New Times and is hosted by The Have-Nots’ own Jay Mays. Party sounds by DJ V2 will also be part of the night’s entertainment.
“We’re very thankful and appreciative of the Have-Nots for honoring Anthony by celebrating life with a night of laughs,” said Monica Margarita Diaz, Miami-Dade Campaign Coordinator for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training endurance event fundraising program. “Anthony and our other honored patients are true inspirations. By coming together as a community, we can fight to end the suffering of 28 million cancer sufferers worldwide.”
Dominic Perenzin, co-founder of The Have-Nots, added, “May 6th is a special date for the Have-Nots as it is our anniversary and we are excited to be a part of something so meaningful. To be able to give back to the local community, which has been so good to us, and show support to such a strong kid as Anthony is a wonderful thing. Comedy with a purpose: What more could you ask for?”

About Anthony Schiappa Pietra
Anthony Schiappa Pietra, 16, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins T-Cell Lymphoma on May 20, 2010. “Most people recognize that I have the disease from my bald head and the Livestrong bracelet on my wrist,” he says. “Often times, they tell me of others close to them that have had some form of cancer. When I hear these stories, I am mortified to learn how many people have had to go through the same things I have had to go through. I would not have been able to make it this far without the love and support of my family and friends. It is their care that has carried me through thus far.“
